NEW YORK, NY  – SENASPACE Gallery is pleased to announce La vie en tugboat, an exhibition of Kathryn Lynch’s river tugs. This will be Lynch’s 13th solo show and first NYC exhibition of the tugs.

Lynch’s recent views of boats, tugs, and the river are images of things we all know and recognize. Expressed with a palette that is masterfully warm and tonal, they are the color of season – gray and green- and times of day- orange and blue. They are also the symbols of the ongoing solitary traveller in each of us. Lynch’s paintings describe the storms we confront, the wind and rain that push against us and the sun that finally shines. Each episode is represented by her imaginative play of toy like boats upon the water.

Lynch is known for her highly reductive style. Simple shapes, rather than specific characteristics define the imagery she depicts. According to Lynch, her depictions of the surrounding world “fall through the cracks” of abstraction and representation, where painting is “a combination of remembering and forgetting.” Lynch collects visual data from her daily surroundings, transforming the picture plane into authentic and simplified forms of her own.

Lynch has received grants from the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation, Yaddo, and a Spain Residency, Joya: arte & eclologia: losqazquez. Kathryn’s work is included in many private and corporate collections and is represented by Sears Peyton Gallery in New York City.
